With a little caffeine, fruit, and protein, this smoothie is the perfect pick-me-up to ward off that afternoon crash! Acidic fruits pair wonderfully with the green tea and avocado. Boost the flavor with fresh herbs, ginger, and turmeric.
A kitchen scale makes smoothie making easy! Just place the blender pitcher on the scale and add and weigh your ingredients. Smoothies are very forgiving; don't worry about being precise.
ingredients
makes one 14 oz smoothie
- 8 oz (1 cup) Green, white, or herbal tea of choice, cold
- 1 oz (about 1/4 avocado) Avocado, ripe OR 2 TB yogurt or kefir
- 4 oz Acidic fruit, such as berries, oranges, yellow peaches, or pineapple, frozen
- 1 oz (1/4 cup) Almonds, preferably blanched and/or soaked overnight
- 2-3 Grams (10-15 leaves) Fresh Basil, Mint, or Lemon Balm Leaves
- 1/8 Teaspoon Turmeric, optional
- 2 grams (1/2 Teaspoon) Fresh Ginger, minced, optional
- 1 - 2 Tablespoons Honey, optional, to taste
deviations & tips
- If you don’t have tea in the fridge, heat 4 oz (1/2 cup) water to 180F. Steep 2 tea bags or 1 tablespoon of tea for 2-3 minutes. Remove tea bag or strain tea. Pour over 4 oz of ice cubes.
- Experiment with herbal teas and green and white blends!
- Soaking your almonds overnight yields a smoother result.
- Avoid adding additional ice cubes; doing so will dilute your smoothie.
Add almonds, ginger, and tea to blender pitcher and puree for about a minute. Add all remaining ingredients and process for about a minute or until smooth. Enjoy!
